Hello and welcome to the website and personal blogs of author, Dan O’Riordan.

Dan O'Riordan

Dan O’Riordan was born in 1971 in Cork City, Ireland and was raised in Dungarvan, County Waterford. He was second last to six children of a middle-class family. His Dad ws a labourer until a bad accident left him with one leg crushed in the 1970’s. His mother was a housewife who did the odd cleaning jobs in schools around the town.

Dan had suffered most of his life from depression and anxiety and had attempted suicide more than thirty-five times as a result of severe bullying, physical, mental and sexual abuse along with alcoholism and drug addiction.

In 1999 Dan’s sexual abuser, a neighbour named Tony O’Shea, was sentenced to just eighteen months in prison for the sexual assault on Dan and, because of his good behaviour and “genuin remorse and concern” for Dan, was released after just three months. Dan, along with the Chief State Solicitor fought the leniency of the sentence and an appeal was heard in the Court of Criminal Appeals in Dublin in 2001. The appeal was over-ruled and O’Shea walked free.

Dan now lives in Central Victoria, Australia with his wife and three children and works in the transport industry.
